A FUCKING ROBOT BROKE THROUGH THE SECURITY

well, it really wasn't that hard... all you had to do was not post with an identical name and subject.

I'd just like to remind you guys...

it might seem like a safer part of the internet, but robots still scan post-modem, I see some really shady looking robots on the stats page. Since those robots read post-modem it's not be a good idea to post your address or phone number, you'll end up with a ton of spam. Email is great for that because the spam only goes the other way.

-Sarah on Monday, August 28, 2006 11:34 am

ive been thinking conte, maybe acoustic renditions of def grampa songs would be better....

lemme know what u think
-anthony on Tuesday, August 29, 2006 8:48 am

i like acoustic...

it would allow my nasty drumming to not be drowned out
-Rob on Tuesday, August 29, 2006 10:05 am

ok, but i may bring both.

and rob you best be practicing...cuz theres nothing worse than an out of time drummer. the best drummers are simple and solid. we'll have some fun with my powerbook, too.

Is anyone driving back to NYC?

It turns out I can make, it I don't have to present the project I've been working on since February until Tuesday (my birthday). Conte is driving up, is anyone driving back to NYC? Or does anyone that's not from the city feel like spending half a holiday weekend here?

Sorry about the horrible colors

I was getting tired of the hidden links, so I changed the color. Links should always be a different color than the rest of the text, preferrably blue, just like the rest of the internet does it. I'll make the rest of the colors match later, I was drunk last night when I changed it and didn't feel like chaning the rest. I'll also make some sort of link generator so you can put links in the body of text.

Cat's fact from the the left coast

coffee is the second most highly traded commodity on earth.

second only to petroleum.

one third of the world's tap water consumption goes to making coffee.

Rob's Useless Fact of the Day

ha, i wish i made this up:

"Right-handed people live, on average, nine years longer than left-handed people."

sorry anthony :(

well....

industrial equipment is designed for righties.. circular saws and such, left handed drivers crash more than right handers because cars were designed for us righties, ... it's not health reasons that causes lefties to have shorter life spans, on average; it is because we live in a world designed for righties... so as long as anthony isn't clumsy... i think he'll be okay
-sarah on Tuesday, July 25, 2006 1:29 pm

did you write ur thesis on this or somethin?

so ur saying that a substantial amount of lefties are murdered every year by righty equipment, and this nubmer of people is so large that it actually lowers the average life span figure for lefties? that still doesn't speak highly for lefties.
-Rob on Tuesday, July 25, 2006 3:08 pm

An truly deadly interface

The Therac-25 was a radiation therapy machine that had several bugs that caused overdoses of radiation and killed several people. The article isn't as good as I was hoping, but other than the software bugs here's the jist of the interface problems:

There was no way to tell from the outside if it was working properly, nor could the software tell if the hardware was working.

There was what's called a race situation, where, if you use the interface faster than the machine can handle you cause an overdose. This wasn't a problem until nurses were experienced and had the controls memorized.

They reused software from an older machine that had hardware checks, but this one needed the check to be done with software.

And they didn't listen to the complaints. This machine killed at least 5 people.

There are several examples of this in medical equipment. In March a baby was killed because the doctor hit the button that was "less awful looking".
-Stu on Tuesday, July 25, 2006 7:37 pm

hey Tony! watch out!

i hear maya was programmed for righties...and there have been some rumors floating around of a rare, killer version of carpal tunnel. coincidence? forgive me, tony, i coundnt resist going old school... still maya hacking?
